A MAN trying to run from the coast of Florida in the USA to Bermuda in an inflatable bubble had to be rescued last night after setting off his distress beacon.

Reza Baluchi was trying to reach his goal of running over 190 nations to encourage world peace but this leg of the journey was to be too much.

Reports suggest Baluchi first encountered the Coast Guard on Wednesday after they received a report about a man travelling in a bubble off Miami asking for directions.

The Coast Guard then found Baluchi in his bubble, where he was running inside to move the ’vessel’ across water. He was only travelling with a few protein bars, bottle of water, GPS and satellite phone. The Coast Guard warned Baluchi of the danger and asked him to head back but he did not listen, so the Coast Guard continued to monitor him over the next couple of days.

Last night, Baluchi, too exhausted to continue, triggered his personal location beacon. The Coast Guard sent out an aeroplane, helicopter and boat to rescue Baluchi 70 nautical miles off shore.

He was taken to the Coast Guard station for a check up, where he was found to have no injuries.

His wallet will certainly have an injury to cover those rescue costs, though.
