Kamala Harris’ old San Francisco apartment on Airbnb for $8200 per month
This Airbnb is attracting a lot of extra attention in lead up to the US election.
A San Francisco apartment listed on Airbnb is attracting a lot of extra attention in lead up to the US election.
Why? It was formerly owned by US Vice President and Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris.
The one-bed one-bathroom loft with a sofa bed in the living area sleeps up to four people and will set guests back just over $270 a night.
As of time of writing, the place is available from late September through to mid-December (including election night on November 5) but the catch is, guests must book for a minimum of 30 nights – meaning a stay will cost a minimum of $8200 in total.
San Francisco has strict rules on short-term rentals, which is defined as renting your home for periods of less than 30 nights.
Ms Harris bought the unit for $US489,000 ($719,000) in 2004 and lived there until she moved to Los Angeles with her husband Doug Emhoff, according to The New York Times.
“This year was significant as it was the same year she became the first-ever female District Attorney in San Francisco,” the Airbnb listing states.
The apartment is also the place Mr Emhoff proposed to Ms Harris in 2014.
Current owner Zhengtao Ji bought the property from Ms Harris for $US860,000 ($1,265,000) in 2021.
It is located in the South of Market (SoMa) neighbourhood, which is not your typical tourist spot in the Californian city.
SoMa “has been hard hit by homelessness and the fentanyl epidemic,” New York Times reports.
The publication visited the unit when one of its renters held a presidential debate party last week.

The views were described as “whizzing traffic, utility poles and the backside of a billboard for the Bay Bridge Inn across the street”.
Ms Harris and Mr Emhoff currently live in the official vice presidential residence in Washington, D.C, but they still own their mansion in Brentwood, California.
Many celebrities call the Los Angeles upscale neighbourhood home.
