A GROUP of women have been rescued by police after they became stranded on a giant, inflatable unicorn in the middle of a lake.

Officers from Chisago County, in Minnesota in the United States, were driving past a lake when they spotted the giant inflatable with the stuck women clutching to it.

Despite the women having paddles, and awkwardly trying to make their way in, the giant unicorn had become stuck in the weeds and they weren’t making much headway.

That was until two lifesaving officers pulled over and threw the women a rope so they could drag themselves and their giant unicorn out of trouble.

Taking to Twitter, Chisago County Sheriff's Office posted a video of the peculiar rescue.

“Driving by a local lake we observed a bunch of women … stuck in the weeds … With a handful of laughs and some mad rescue roping skills they were pulled back to the dock,” the police station wrote.

On Facebook, the officers from the station joked that their job “is a front-row seat to the greatest show on earth”.

The women were clearly happy for the help, grabbing the rope before they laughed their way in.

“And the cops save us,” one woman yelled.

“We had to get pulled in by the cops.”

The police station later chimed in on Twitter, joking they were “an equal opportunity help provider” when someone wrote “sometimes even unicorns need help”.

Despite the lighthearted rescue, inflatable toys have become a giant headache for the world’s lifeguards.

Last month, the United Kingdom’s Coastguard issued a warning to people about the inflatable toys after having to regularly rescue people blown out to sea on them.

One July afternoon, British lifeguards rescued 15 people after their inflatables left them stranded in the middle of the ocean.

HM Coastguard boss Piers Stanbury told The Telegraph: “We’ve had people rescued from a number of beaches along Hampshire and Sussex coastline. Each one of them had been using an inflatable. Thankfully, everyone so far has been rescued and is safe.

“We can’t stress enough that these inflatables are not suitable for use in the sea. Tide conditions, the wind, any changes in the weather can just take them out beyond safe depths.

“Please, don’t use them. Don’t take them to the seaside. Inflatables should only be used in swimming pools, not at the coast where they can quickly go from being fun to being potentially deadly.”
