DIRTY Dancing fans can now stay at the resort where the much-loved movie starring Jennifer Grey and the late Patrick Swayze was filmed.
It was the cult hit seen by millions with an unforgettable soundtrack and a story of first love which touched the heart of a generation. The Mountain Lake Lodge in Pembroke, Virginia, US, is the actual place where Frances “Baby” Houseman and Johnny Grey fell in love and performed their famous (I’ve Had) The Time of My Lifedance routine. The Sun reports the resort is set to host three special “Dirty Dancing” weekends this northern summer where guests can enjoy activities inspired by the film such as trivia, dancing lessons and a watermelon toss. Visitors can even stay in the cabin where Baby’s family stayed during their summer of 1963. In the classic film, it was called “Kellerman Resort” and was supposed to be located in New York’s Catskill Mountains. “It is amazing how many thousands of Dirty Dancing fans we meet every summer,” the hotel’s general manager Heidi Stone said. “We have guests from all over the world that come to Mountain Lake Lodge just for the Dirty Dancing Weekends. “It tends to be a popular ‘girls’ getaway’ weekend, but we do see some husbands and boyfriends from time to time.” To experience all the excitement and romance, packages start at $AU445 per person based on double occupancy. Although originally a low-budget project, the film became a massive box office hit and is one of the most beloved movies of all time. As of 2009, it has earned more than $288 million worldwide. It was the first film to sell more than a million copies on home video, and the Dirty Dancing soundtrack created by Jimmy Ienner generated two multi-platinum albums and multiple singles, including (I’ve Had) The Time of My Life, which won both the Golden Globe and Academy Award for Best Original Song, and a Grammy Award for best duet.
