You can rent this private island paradise for just $140 per night

At first glance, this little slice of paradise looks like it could be a beach in the Maldives. But it’s actually a lot closer to home, and far cheaper than you might expect.

At first glance, this little slice of paradise looks like it could be a beach in the Maldives.

But instead, this island is much closer to home than you might think — and you’re able to stay for a whole lot less.

Known as Slipper Island off the coast of New Zealand, the private residence is surrounded by crystal clear waters, flowing hills and even a colony of baby pigs that roam around the property.

While the property will actually set you back $2800 a night if you were to stay on your own, bring around 20 friends and family in to the mix and you’ll be paying less that $150 for a nights stay.

Taking over the island will include the option to “glamp” (glamorous camping), the use of four chalets, and even a lodge.

Just a 15 minute ride from Tairua in the Coromandel region in New Zealand’s north, the whole island is surrounded by the blue water synonymous with the Caribbean or the Maldives.

But, according to those who have visited the island, the beauty of the island is that very few people know about it.

According to Stuff, the 224-hectare island was once used as a farm from the mid to late 1800s, and 95 per cent of the island was recently sold to Auckland-based property developer Wendy Wu.

The rest is made up of a few privately owned houses and is one of New Zealand’s few private islands.

Just be warned — if you’re hoping to cruise social media during your stay, the island has no Wi-Fi and is pretty far off the radar.
