Aussie star Isla Fisher’s cheeky new ad for Air New Zealand after high-profile split
Hollywood star Isla Fisher fronts Air NZ’s latest Australian campaign in a playful ad as single woman. And the airline has dropped sale fares to celebrate.
Australian actor Isla Fisher is the star of Air New Zealand’s latest campaign to encourage Aussies to use the airline when travelling across the Tasman.
In a new lighthearted ad called ‘Somewhere over the Tasman’, which was released on Monday, viewers will see a playful, single Fisher flirting with a single Kiwi father. (Watch the video in the player above).
Fisher first makes friends on the plane with a young girl who is flying home on her own.
Much to Fisher’s surprise, the girl has no idea she is sitting next to a Hollywood star – but when they touch down, the girl’s dad certainly does.
“Dad, I made a new friend,” the girl says running for a hug at the airport. “Can she come for a play date some time?”
Seeing Fisher approach, the dad says, ”I’d love that,” to which a flirty Fisher replies “how about now?”.
As the minute-long clip fades to black, Fisher can be heard asking if her new young friend’s dad is also “flying solo”, which the daughter confirms with a “uh-huh”.
The 48-year-old actor was married to Borat star Sacha Baron Cohen, 52, for 14 years before the couple announced their split in April.
They shared they had filed to end their marriage in 2023 after more than 20 years together, but had kept it a secret.
The announcement attracted huge attention as it came during a messy spat with Australian actor Rebel Wilson, who accused Baron Cohen of sexually harassing her on set. He has denied the claims.
Fisher said she had flown from Los Angeles to Australia with Air New Zealand “many times” and was excited to front the campaign promoting their great Kiwi hospitality.
“I’m excited to share my love for New Zealand with my fellow Australians and hope you enjoy this campaign as much as I enjoyed filming it,” she said in a statement.
Kathryn O’Brien, Air New Zealand’s general manager for Australia, said Fisher was the perfect choice.
“From the outset, we knew we needed to work with someone who could capture our sense of fun and entertaining spirit, while also resonating with the Australian audience,” she said. “Who better than the iconic AACTA Award winning actress, Isla Fisher.
“Partnering with Isla allows us to showcase the warm and down-to-earth approach to service we are known and loved for while also showing why we are the airline of choice for seamless connections to New Zealand and beyond.”
