There’s nothing worse than seeing your holiday rained off when all you wanted was to soak up some sun.

Fortunately, there’s a stunning Mediterranean island with a rainy-day guarantee that will offer you a refund on your hotel stay if it rains for too long.

Located just off the coast of Tuscany in Italy, the island of Elba – one of Italy’s biggest islands – is part of the National Park of the Tuscan Archipelago, the largest marine park in Europe.

And with Napoleon having once been exiled to the island, there’s plenty of history to discover too.

But if that’s not enticing enough, the island even has a rainy-day guarantee.

In an initiative known as “Elba No Rain”, which was launched last year, the island is offering to refund guests’ hotel stays if it rains for too long.

According to the island’s official tourist site: “Even if rain is rare on Elba Island in May, it can still occur. But on Elba rain is no longer a problem!

“With the initiative ‘Elba No Rain’, during the month of May and from September to October, if rain happens to occur during your stay, you won’t have to pay for your overnight accommodation!”

The money-back guarantee applies during May, September and October.

There are 14 hotels on the island that are participating in the scheme, ranging from luxury hotels to camping sites.

You’ll have to email them to request their Elba No Rain tariff and to book.

In order for you to get a refund, though, it will have to rain for two hours or more between the hours of 10am and 8pm.
