VICTORIANS will have more ways to get to Hamilton Island when Virgin Australia begins direct flights from Melbourne this week. The flights begin on Thursday, just in time for Audi Hamilton Island Race Week which starts two days later.
Virgin will operate its Boeing 737-800 aircraft on the route, meaning passengers will be able to fly in business class on the route for the first time since Qantas handed operations to its low-cost carrier Jetstar nine years ago.
Flights will depart Melbourne at 8.30am on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday, arriving on the Whitsundays island at 11.30am.
The return flight departs at noon on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday, landing in Melbourne at 3pm.
A reduced service will operate in off-peak months between February and June on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
Prices start from $185 one-way on Virgin's Saver Lite fare.
