Obamas’ wedding anniversary: Sweet post from Victorian winery

Barack and Michelle Obama have shared the love on their 31st wedding anniversary, with a surprising cameo for Australia.

The Obamas have celebrated a milestone 31st wedding anniversary with sweet tributes to one another.

Barack Obama, 62, and his wife Michelle, 59, tied the knot at the Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago on October 3, 1992.

Though the couple weren’t together on the date of their anniversary on Tuesday – Mrs Obama was holidaying in Europe, while her husband remained in the US – they shared touching messages to one another on social media to celebrate.

“I love going through life with you by my side,” Mrs Obama wrote. Picture: Instagram.

The former first lady uploaded a photo that showed herself and Mr Obama dressed casually, posing in front of a city backdrop.

“31 years, and a lifetime ago,” she wrote.

“I love going through life with you by my side, Barack. Happy anniversary, honey.”

But it was Mr Obama’s post that drew the attention of Australian fans.

The former US president posted his own image of himself and his wife to celebrate the occasion.

In the snap, the Obamas wore matching navy ensembles as they embraced in front of a lush, green landscape. Mr Obama wore a trendy collared jacket and chinos, while Mrs Obama wore a similar navy bomber and jeans.

“Happy anniversary, sweetheart! Michelle, you’re brilliant, kind, funny, and beautiful – and I’m lucky to call you mine,” he captioned the photo.

The image, it turns out, was taken in Victoria, at Pt. Leo Estate on the glorious Mornington Peninsula.

The ritzy venue is a mecca for food, wine and art. It appears the Obamas’ photo was snapped in the estate’s sculpture park, which is home to works by Australian and international artists.

The photo was from a trip to Australia earlier this year. It wasn’t clear whether their holiday Down Under was designed to be an early anniversary celebration, but a spokesperson for Pt. Leo Estate wrote: “You are always welcome to celebrate any future special occasions with us on the Mornington Peninsula – Happy Anniversary!”

During the trip in March, the pair also visited Sydney, where Mr Obama spoke at the Aware Super Theatre and met with Anthony Albanese at Kirribilli House.

In Melbourne, the Obamas also tried out Stokehouse in St Kilda, Embla in the CBD – where they had a floor of the bar to themselves – and Gimlet.

At Pt. Leo Estate, they ate lunch at Laura, a small 40-seat fine diner.
