A huge, multimillion-dollar Monopoly themed experience is coming to Australia — and it’s not going to be on the Gold Coast.

It was revealed this week that the long-awaited $20 million Monopoly-themed indoor park, which is just the second of its kind in the world, will open in Melbourne Central in Spring 2023.

The 1650-square-metre park will be twice the size of the original Monopoly park, which opened in Hong Kong in 2019.

The new attraction will include two components — Monopoly City and Monopoly Mansion — which are inspired by Melbourne’s cityscape and complete with trams and street art.

A total of 15 attractions will be spread across the park, including a 4D theatre and a chance wheel.

With the park described as a “fully immersive experience”, players will be invited to tour Mr Monopoly’s glitzy mansion before proceeding into the city, where they can earn Monopoly dollars playing a slew of interactive games.

Monopoly money can be earned by helping to fix the broken pipes at WaterWorks or powering the Electric Company — or simply by stealing it from the Monopoly bank. It can be spent at the themed experience’s cafe and retail store.

A 4D theatre will allow guests to take a ride on the Monopoly Railway, while mugshots can be taken in a life-size version of the iconic Monopoly jail.

Events hire is available at any of the park’s eight party and games rooms.

“The keys to Monopoly City and Mr. Monopoly’s Mansion are due for handover in September 2023,” said Mark Connolly, general manager of Monopoly Dreams Melbourne.

“We are excited to be able to officially give Aussies an opening day for the most anticipated attraction of 2023.”

The park will open its doors in September, with ticket prices starting at $30. Tickets will become available one month out from the opening date.
