DREAMING of an escape to an island paradise right about now?

Well it’s time to head overseas! Despite being well-known as a beach-lover’s paradise, not a single Australian island has made it into a list of the world’s best by travel website TripAdvisor, in its second annual Travellers Choice Islands Awards.

While the pristine white beaches and stunning turquoise waters of Ambergris in Belize propelled it to the top of the list, two islands from the South Pacific region also made the cut: Bora Bora and Aitutaki.

Norfolk Island and Kangaroo Island made a separate list of the top 10 islands in the South Pacific.

“Kangaroo Island being recognised in TripAdvisor’s Traveller’s Choice Awards is a clear indication that people are going to the island, having a memorable experience and are moved enough to want to share it with the rest of the world online,” South Australian Tourism Commission Chief Executive Rodney Harrex said.

“This is a credit to the island’s beauty, experiences and people.”
