‘Trusting bunch here’: Why this Aussie beach pic is stunning world
An image of an Australian beach is doing the rounds online but there’s one detail that has people talking.
Every Aussie knows to kick off your thongs before the soft sand at the beach.
Carry them? Nah.
Leave them at the beach entrance? They’ll be right.
An incredible picture of a South Australian beach showing just that has lit a fire under Reddit commentators this week.
The image shows a wooden platform leading to a sunny beach strewn with shoes and pluggers.
Its caption reads: “We truly are a trusting bunch here in Australia.”
Hundreds of Aussies agreed.
One wrote: “One of the unwritten rules of the beach.”
“If someone wants to steal my sweaty pluggers, go for it,” exclaimed another.
Others said it’s not just the sanctity of their thongs they entrust to fellow beachgoers.
“I leave my keys and phone on the beach while I go for a swim. Never had anything stolen, but I’m sure it’s happened to someone,” one said.
“I used to go spearfishing but only had a motorcycle,” recounted another.
“Had a special backpack to fit my fins and other gear in. I went to the beach, put my phone, wallet, and keys in it, left it on the shore, and swam off. Never once had an issue.”
Some pointed out that it’s a rather unique trait of Australians.
“In the Netherlands someone stole my sweaty pluggers,” one shared.
One person said it even extends beyond beaches.
“I always think that whenever I go to the cricket and folks use their bags to mark their seats,” they said.
“It’s phenomenal how excellent we are to each other.”
