RUNNING OF THE SHEEP

YOU'VE heard of the Running of the Bulls festival in Spain, but what about the Running of the Sheep in Boorowa?

The event is the highlight of Boorowa Hotel's Irish Woolfest on Sunday, October 6.

The town, an hour's drive north of Canberra, holds the event each year.

A farmer guides the sheep along the main street on his four wheel motorbike while dogs help keep them on track.

The event is followed by a street parade with a range of floats and an "Off the Sheep's Back" wool fashion parade.

There will also be performances by Irish dancers, singers and bands, a grower's market, an art show, a wool pressing competition and displays of sheep shearing, yard dogs herding sheep and top merinos.
