FEEL the power of the silver screen at the Powerhouse, or mess about on the river at South Bank. Here's Brisbane's best outdoor cinemas.

NISSAN MOONLIGHT CINEMA

Starts: Now until Sunday, 17 February.

Chick flick: Breakfast at Tiffany's.

Food & drink: BYO food or pick up snacks from Moonlight Cinema's Cuisine on Cue. However, no alcohol can be taken in to the cinema.

Smoking? Designated smoking areas are provided.

If it rains: Movies will still be screened if it rains, so bring warm/wet weather gear. Umbrellas won't be permitted as they obstruct the view of guests sitting behind you, but you can purchase disposable rain ponchos for $2. If the screening is cancelled, tickets will be exchangeable for any other night.

What can I bring? Bean beds are available ($5, plus a $10 (cash only), refundable deposit). Alternatively you can bring low beach chairs, cushions, blankets and rugs.

Getting there: Brisbane Powerhouse at New Farm Park. Enter the cinema via Lamington Street. There's free car parking on site via Lamington St (a continuation of James St), alternatively you can park in New Farm Park (access via Brunswick St). Bus services 195, 196, 197, 199 are within walking distance.

What time does the film start? Gates open at 6pm, with screenings approximately at 7.30pm, but times may vary according to sundown.

Bookings: You can book online or at the Box Office, but tickets are subject to availability. For groups of 20 or more people, call 1300 364 328.

Price: Online = adult $12, concession $10 and children 5 to 15 years $8. Box Office = adult $13, concession $11 and children $9.

Tip: Surrounded by uber-chic restaurants and bars, leave the picnic at home and sample some of the local delights.

BRISBANE OPENAIR

Starts: Now until Sunday, 30 December.

Best film starring a rubber shark: Jaws.

Food & drink: You can bring your own food and there's a fully licensed bar, but no BYO drinks or glass allowed at the event. Brisbane Openair also has sunset drinks and entertainment during 'Orange Hour'.

What can I bring? Deck chairs, beanbags and blanket can be hired for $3, or you can buy a blanket for $23. There's also the option to bring your own.

Dogs? No.

Getting there: Rainforest Green, South Bank. It's on the river side of The Arbour, just across from the Suncorp Piazza and the Conservatorium. The nearest parking station is the South Bank Parklands Underground Carpark.

What time does the film start? The event opens at 5.30pm, with screenings approximately at 6.30pm-7pm.

Bookings: You can book online or by calling (02) 9130 1235.

Price: Early bird online $11, or $15 at the door. Children under six go free to children's films, but must be accompanied by an adult.

Tip: Parking at South Bank Parklands Underground Carpark is just $5 when you present your parking ticket at the box office.
