Schoolies 2015: Gold Coast schoolies celebrate with butt selfies
SCHOOLIES has kicked off with as many as 25,000 young people flocking to the Gold Coast. They’re certainly having a crack at standing out.
WITH schoolies celebrations well underway at the Gold Coast, school leavers have taken to social media to share some very cheeky selfies.
As the week-long kicked off at the beachside party strip in Surfers Paradise, so too did the selfies and hashtags on social media.
One of the themes gaining in popularity this year is schoolies and toolies posting images of their naked bottoms.
Schoolies began in earnest on Saturday night when the final scores of around 25,000 school leavers arrived at the glitter strip.
A party precinct has been set up on the Surfers Paradise shoreline and police said there were no arrests or fines overnight linked to post-exam partygoers. However, eight “non-schoolies” - otherwise known as “toolies” - were arrested on charges such as public nuisance.
Extra police and specialist services have been on standby this year in the wake of the Paris terror attacks. However, authorities have stressed there were no specific terrorism threats.
Besides sharing photos of their bottoms, the schoolies were also sharing pictures of the amount of alcohol they have purchased for their first night at the Gold Coast.
One school leaver posted an image to Instagram, enjoying the ‘Schoolies Essentials’ of condoms, lubricant and No-Doz.
NSW Police have warned their tech-savvy young people to think before they post embarrassing videos online as they may have unforeseen consequences later in life.
Meanwhile, a wild brawl between four young men has marred the first day of Schoolies Festival at Victor Harbor, south of Adelaide in South Australia.
A video shows security officers frantically pulling the violent youths apart as they throw numerous punches in an ugly fight near Warland Reserve, the centre of the celebrations, on Friday night.
It was one of a host of problems confronting police on the night with four men arrested and charged for drug trafficking and 20 revellers being transported to local hospitals and Flinders Medical Centre for minor fractures.
But police said they were pleased with the behaviour of school leavers on the first night of festival marking the end of high school for thousands of young South Australians.
A number of men were charged with drug offences including two school leavers, police said.
Police made a total of eight arrests on Friday, including an Aberfoyle Park man, 22, and a Huntfield Heights man, 21, who police alleged had more than 200 ecstasy pills and a small amount of methamphetamine in a Victor Harbor motel room.
Both men were charged with trafficking a controlled drug.
A Penola man, 20, was arrested and charged after allegedly being found with 52 ecstasy tablets near Warland Reserve and a Clarence Gardens man, 18, was charged with trafficking a controlled drug.
Police also arrested a school leaver after finding him with 10 ecstasy pills on Friday afternoon.
Police issued 36 ‘on the spot fines’ for drinking or possessing alcohol in dry zone areas, which cover most of the Victor Harbor township.
