Jetstar announces $59 flights from Sydney to Whitsundays

DEMAND for this once little-known hotspot has gone sky-high and now Jetstar is offering direct flights there on the cheap.

Jetstar is introducing new flights from Sydney to the Whitsunday Coast in 2017 and is offering $59 one-way sale fares to celebrate.

“The Whitsunday Coast has been compared to the Noosa of 15 years ago, and Jetstar is driving its popularity with affordable flights to the region,” says Carly Povey, Jetstar Australia and New Zealand Head of Commercial.

On the doorstep of the Great Barrier Reef, the Whitsunday Coast Airport (Proserpine) will receive direct flights from Sydney from 4 April 2017 that will be operated three times weekly. In addition, weekly flights from Brisbane will increase from seven to ten over peak periods starting tomorrow 13 December, while year-round flights from Melbourne will increase from three to four per week from March.

Proserpine also made a recent list from Skyscanner that named top emerging Aussie destinations. According to the study, Proserpine had a 14 per cent growth in flight searches over the past three years. This was behind Norfolk Island (16 per cent), Esperance (15 per cent) and followed by Hobart (9 per cent) and Canberra (5 per cent).

The extra flights will see Jetstar bring up to 170,000 people into the region each year, providing a multi-million dollar boost to the local economy.

Jetstar’s new Sydney to Whitsunday Coast flights will be operated by 180-seat Airbus A320 aircraft on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
