Qantas Frequent Flyer to give away 10 million points as Grant Welsh becomes its 10 millionth member
GRANT Welsh is stoked to be the 10 millionth Qantas Frequent Flyer member and you could be celebrating too with the airline’s 10 million points giveaway.
ANYONE would think Grant Welsh had won lotto, he’s that excited.
But instead the Melbourne construction worker has become the 10 millionth Qantas Frequent Flyer after joining the loyalty program.
“A lady from Qantas rang me and informed me of that milestone and that was that,” he said.
“I’m very excited. First of all I was excited because hopefully I’m going to win something from this and second of all, because I was the one. I’ve never won anything in my life.
“As a kid, when I was 16, I won a radio but that’s about it.”
The married father of two said joining the QFF program was a no-brainer.
“We fly a bit and basically when something is offered to you for nothing why wouldn’t you take it? I’m going to pay to get on the plane anyway,” he said.
“The other thing with the rewards points is that it works with Woolworths so that’s a bonus.
“My wife had joined previously. I wouldn’t say we’re jetsetters but we do fly a little bit, but we’re of the age, now that the children have grown up, where we can holiday a bit more.”

At 53, the father of two said it was “time to enjoy life”.
“The kids are off our hands and we don’t have money problems so I just think you should holiday before something happens because you hear of people getting sick and things,” he said.
“When you reach my age it’s time to enjoy life.”
Qantas Loyalty spokeswoman Stephanie Tully said, surprisingly, many QFF members don’t even fly.
“It did start as just a frequent flying program but now, of the 10 million members, so many of them aren’t frequent flyers and they’re earning points,” she said.
“The credit card is definitely the way to earn points every day because most people use their credit card. Some members don’t even have a credit card and the only way they earn is through their weekly shop at Woolworths.
“But most members are striving for a flight reward.”
For members who want more than a seat on a plane, points can also be used for hotels as well as in the Qantas Store with thousands of products to choose from including gift cards, kitchen appliances, flight simulator experience or iPads.
In partnership with Qantas, one reader in each state has the chance to win a million points. If you’re not already a Frequent Flyer member, you can join via this competition and the usual $89.50 fee will be waived.
To enter you just need to say how one million Qantas Points would change your life, or someone else’s. The competition ends Sunday, June 15.
