Revellers brace for traffic nightmare at Splendour In The Grass

Splendour fans are so confused about the new transport system, calling organisers out for “making it seriously hard” to attend this year’s festival.

Top ten things to do in 2019

Those gearing up for Splendour in the Grass this weekend are in for a rude shock when it comes to transport.

With the festival announcing a “no drop-off” policy on site for private vehicles just days out from the event, revellers are being forced to reconsider their transport plans.

Those attending need to be dropped off 25 minutes away in Mullumbimby, and will be shuttled in.

“We have moved our drop off and pick up site for private vehicles off the grounds this year as it will assist with managing traffic in and around the festival,” organisers shared. “It’s now at Mullumbimby Leagues Club where a free shuttle can drop you to the festival.”

If you catch an Uber, taxi or pre-book a bus, you can get dropped off at the ground.

The move has outraged many, but none more so than families trying to get to the festival with young children.

“What an absolute joke,” commented one social media user. “I usually take my children every year but Splendour in the Grass are making it seriously hard this year.”

One parent asked if there was any alternative for those who needed car seats.

“We have a 12-week-old baby and a 3-year-old, obviously both require car seats and a pram. With no pick up/drop off option, we are being forced to park and pay. Is there any alternative in place for these situations?” she wrote on the Splendour Facebook page.

Organisers simply replied: “There is an uber and taxi drop off area on site.”

Outraged at the brush-off, other festival goers jumped to her defence.

“Do you really think this family have a hope in hell getting an Uber or Taxi to accommodate baby seats etc. And where would you like them to store their car seats for their return trip? Their should be exceptions for this sort of situation.”

Staff working the event are also required to park off site and catch the shuttle bus in.

With some calling it “the dumbest thing ever” and locals refusing to drive to Mullumbimby for the shuttle, some people are now trying to offload tickets.

At least 13 people commented under Splendour’s transport post, attempting to get rid of their tickets ahead of the transport nightmare.

“And the best part that they haven’t mentioned is that the taxi and ride sharing drop off is not neat,” added one Facebook user. “The entry and the road into the site has a heap of no standing signs — just installed for several kilometres.”

About 42,500 people are expected to attend the festival from Friday to Sunday, desperate to see headline acts Tame Impala, Childish Gambino and Chance the Rapper.

Organisers insist they have “bumped up the number of buses on all routes” and have “significantly reduced bus ticket prices” in a bid to ease the traffic congestion from past years. The bus tickets are return only and must be pre-purchased online before boarding.

Splendour has more helpful information here on the new drop off and pick up locations, parking passes and bus tickets.
