Compared to the rest of the world, Aussies post fewer negative reviews

AUSTRALIANS post fewer negative reviews online when compared to the rest of the world. Good to know we're a happy bunch.

AUSSIES don't whine online as much as the rest of the world, according to new statistics out as part of a Future of Travel study released by Expedia and Egencia - a study which incorporated 8535 adults in 24 countries.

Aussies do pay attention to what people are saying online, but don't contribute - and don't whinge as much as the rest of the world.

Yes, we do occasionally post a negative comment, but according to these results only 21 per cent of Aussies have posted negatively in the last year about a travel experience - compared with a global average of 33 per cent.

"It's interesting to see even though Australians use travel reviews to help plan and book travel, we don't tend to share our own experiences, particularly negative, with our fellow travellers as much as other nationalities, although we weren't at the bottom of the global table," Georg Ruebensal, Expedia Managing Director, Australia and New Zealand, told news.com.au. "While we didn't ask respondents why they choose to post or not post about their travel experiences, one of the reasons could be cultural differences."

So who does whine more than us? Interestingly travellers from India, Brazil, Thailand, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Mexico are most likely to post a negative review.

The influence in travel reviews in the travel planning process continues to grow across the globe, but Ruebensal stresses that it is important for travellers to read beyond the first or second negative or positive review. "While travel reviews are a useful tool to help travellers find the right trip for them, we encourage Australians to look for common themes in the reviews, as experiences do vary."
