The sixth instalment of NSW’s 13 Great Walks will be unveiled to avid bushwalkers from Friday, in what will be the longest uninterrupted coastal trek on the state’s South Coast.

The 34km Murramarang South Coast Walk takes three days to complete and starts at Pretty Beach, just under four hours from Sydney, and goes through Murramarang National Park before finishing at Maloney’s Beach in Batemans Bay.

The hike traverses hidden coves, secluded beaches, and forests of spotted gums which grow down to the beach. Nature lovers also have ample opportunities to spot lyrebirds, friendly eastern grey kangaroos, bandicoots and echidnas.

NSW Environmental Minister, James Griffin described Murramarang National Park as one of NSW’s “best hidden gems”.

“This NSW Great Walk puts the South Coast on every bush walker’s bucket list, with

this new three-day, three-night experience delivering the best of the bush and the

beach, with spotted-gum forests, secluded beaches and dramatic headlands,” Mr Griffin said.

Hikers averse to camping can also rent beachside cabins through the National Parks and Wildlife Service. Packages that include options like transfers, a welcome tour, and camping/ accommodation can also be booked now for April.

The new walk is one of the 13 Great Walks, which showcases some of NSW’s top alpine, rainforest and coastal landscapes. Six of the 13 tracks are currently operational.

The $3.64m project is part of a greater $450m investment in NSW’s national parks, and includes more than 200 projects.

It’s estimated that NSW’s national parks annually contribute about $18 billion and 74,000 jobs to the state’s economy.
