FOR the first time, drones have been allowed to fly over Kakadu National Park and record footage of one of Australia’s most spectacular wonders. Here’s your first look.

Kakadu like you've never seen it!

WHEN we say you’ve never seen Kakadu like this before, we mean it.

For the first time, drones have been allowed to fly over Kakadu National Park and record footage of one of Australia’s most spectacular wonders.

The footage, which Tourism NT has shared with news.com.au, will be released as part of a new online tourism campaign to promote the region to the world.

And it showcases the dramatic beauty of the 20,000 square kilometre, World Heritage listed park. Sites captured in the video include Yellow Waters Billabong at sunrise, Nourlangie Rock, the waterfalls of Maguk Gorge and Gunlom Waterfall and Ubirr Lookout at sunset.

The footage was filmed by drone experts and Instagram stars Salty Wings, who toured the site in June, with special permission from Kakadu’s traditional owners.

“Having seen a lot of Australia’s coastline, we were humbled and excited when the opportunity of working inland at Kakadu National Park came,” Salty Wings co-owner Jampal Williamson said.

“The landscape stood out in more ways than one. Never had we experienced such an expansive, ancient place with such history. At all times we were surrounded with vast planes and giant escarpments that stretched as far as the eye could see.

“We shot from sunrise to sunset each day, capturing rich Australian outback colours. The mornings were spectacular, as soon as the sun broke the horizon Kakadu came alive with wildlife and pastel hues.”

Just three hours from Darwin, Kakadu is Australia’s largest national park. Acting Kakadu National Park manager Steve Wroe said had little doubt the stunning video would boost visitors to the park.

“We’re so excited to be a part of this project, the footage is incredible and shows our park at its very best,” he said.
