A NEW hotel will open at Newcastle Airport, gateway to the Port Stephens region, next year. The 95-roomMercure Newcastle Airport will have 95 rooms, a restaurant and conference facilities.
It will be the first hotel at the airport, which is the second busiest in NSW after Sydney with more than one million passengers each year.
The $8 million, four-storey hotel is due to open in late 2014 after being approved by the local council.
Sydney Airport also welcomed its first hotel, Rydges, at the International Terminal in May.
Jetstar, Virgin Australia, QantasLink, Rex and Brindabella Airlines offer direct flights from Newcastle Airport to Melbourne, Brisbane, Sydney, the Gold Coast, Canberra and Ballina.
The Port Stephens region is home to several seaside towns including Anna Bay, Nelson Bay and Shoal Bay.
