How to speed through airport security in record time
YES, there is a perfect system for getting through the airport security line quicker than other passengers. Here are the tricks you need to know.
BELIEVE it or not, there is a perfect system for getting through the airport security line in a flash.
It takes careful planning and the occasional improvisation, but the time you spend standing in line can be cut significantly.
Here are the tips you need to know before you go, according to Wired.com.
Before you get to the security screening line:
1. Wear a jacket
Yes, even if it's warm. You can stash all your items in the pockets easily, such as your keys, phone and wallet, then as soon as it has passed through security you can shift the items back into your pockets if you wish. This means less loose items in the tray, reducing the risk of something being left behind. Bonus: it will keep you warm on the freezing flight.
2. Keep your plane ticket and passport in a separate pocket - that way they'll be easy to find.
3. Think carefully about your footwear
Wear shoes that can easily be pulled off and on. You can always keep a second pair of shoes in your carry-on bag and switch once you've cleared security.
4. Keep your laptop handy
Stash it in a separate pocket in your bag or make sure you know where it is, or you could hold up the queue while you try to find it.
In the line:
5. Skip the shortest line
Instead, look for the line with the more experienced travellers. Avoid lines with children or people who look like they're unprepared.
6. Have everything ready - belt off, bag open etc.
7. Use two trays
Put your laptop in the first one, and cover it with the second tray, keeping your items together.
8. Remove your shoes (if you need to) and put them in the top tray
Then your jacket and belt go on top. Place the items in the tray in the order you would like to put them back on.
9. The tray with your jacket etc goes on the conveyor first
This way you can get organised before your bag comes through.
10. The tray with your laptop goes next
Followed by your backpack, handbag and then your carry-on.
Finally, once you've reached the other side, put your belt and jacket on first, before your shoes. You want to make sure you have the most important items with you. Also, put your laptop back in your bag straight away and close it. Then move out of the way quickly, even if your shoes aren't on yet - you can put them on around the corner.
