Hamish, Zoe Foster Blake spruik Australia holidays in $7 million campaign

Tourism Australia has dropped a new $7 million campaign enlisting two of our favourite faces. But where they want to visit first may come as a surprise.

EXCLUSIVE: Hamish Blake and Zoe Foster-Blake front the latest Tourism Australia campaign

Hamish Blake and Zoe Foster-Blake have been enlisted by Tourism Australia to front their new $7 million campaign, urging Australians to – you guessed it – take a holiday at home.

The new campaign, which hopes to claw back at the one billion dollars lost each and every month from the tourism sector as a result of the ongoing international and state border closures, features the popular duo deciding where in Oz they’d like to visit.

Appearing on Channel 9’s Today show, the pair – who are parents to Sonny, 6, and Rudy, 3, explained the one spot at the top of their travel list.

“I need somewhere warm and sunny,” Foster-Blake told hosts Karl Stefanovic and Allison Langdon.

“And with turquoise water … so I’m thinking the Top End.

“I’m a big fan of anything rugged. Whether that’s coastal or even down in Tassie I’m a huge fan of Tassie. But I think the fun part is you know, this is the great chance for people to look at the map, pick somewhere you haven’t been, and then see where the adventure takes you. “This is a chance to explore.”

Speaking to News Corp, Zoe said she was also drawn to destinations like WA’s Middle Lagoon and NT’s Bitter Springs.

“I’m desperate to get to the top end and there’s parts of the Western Australia that I’ve never been to, I haven’t even done the Margaret River, I want to go to Broome. I also haven’t been to Uluru, there’s so much we haven’t done, I feel quite embarrassed!,” Foster-Blake added while speaking to Nova 96.9’s breakfast duo Fitzy and Wippa.

The campaign, which will be rolled out from today across print, social media, radio and outdoor advertising, hopes to encourage holiday-makers to book more than just hotels – but splash out on experiences as well.

Speaking on ABC Breakfast, Tourism Minister Simon Birmingham said that with overseas travel off the cards for the “foreseeable future” – Australians should be booking a few weeks holidaying in Australia instead.

“Spend it interstate somewhere and really help the local economy while you’re doing so,” he said.

“There are a whole lot of incredible things that people can do, and experiences they can have, and we do want those Australians who can, to book a proper holiday, to take a week or two’s break, to save jobs in airlines, in airports, in hire car companies, in hotels, in tour operators.”

Tourism Australia managing director Phillipa Harrison said the campaign was “just the first of a series of initiatives … to drive as much domestic demand as possible, particularly to those regions and operators that are typically popular with international visitors.”

Zoe and Hamish won’t be the only familiar faces taking a trip to WA and the Top End this year, with Sunrise host Samantha Armytage revealing to news.com.au the Kimberley region was on her must-visit list this year.

“My favourite spot is Hyams Beach on the NSW south coast. It’s quiet and beautiful with the whitest sand and the bluest ocean. It’s definitely my happy place,” she told news.com.au.

“I’d love to go to the Kimberley. I’ve never been and can’t wait to get up there for a bit of adventure.”

Comedian Dave Hughes agreed, saying that after many visits to his favourite destination of Warrnambool in Victoria, he hopes to check out all the Kimberleys had to offer as well.

“My wife Holly has a road trip dream involving tents and endless sky. The serenity would be remarkable,” he said.
