COTTESLOE has been voted Perth's favourite beach in a reader poll on news website PerthNow.
With 23 per cent of the vote, Cottesloe came in well ahead of City Beach and Rockingham Beach (14 per cent), Scarborough (13 per cent), Mullalloo (12 per cent), Trigg (9 per cent) and Hillarys Boat Harbour (5 per cent).
The poll received nearly 5000 votes.
The results generated plenty of comment on PerthNowin support of beaches throughout WA.
Rockingham beaches were hailed as sheltered family beaches. Leighton drew support as a dog beach, Point Peron and Mettams Pool for snorkelling and Scarborough and Trigg for their surf.
Several beaches not included in the survey drew praise. "Sorrento Beach is by far the best and yet doesn't get a mention. It is such a clean beach and is a credit to The City of Joondulup's employee's and their maintenance program. I have travelled the whole of Europe and have not come across a better beach area," wrote Margaret Macaulay of Kingsley.
Rottnest Island was also singled out by several commenters. "The best beach I have swum at is the Basin at Rotto - great for all ages when your over there but as for the rest, all our beaches have their own special attraction," said Annette Gerritsen of Camillo.
And from an out-of-towner: "From a Sydney boy who has spent a lot of time in Perth - ALL the Perth beaches are great compared to the east coast cities. They are clean, not crowded and have crystal waters. You guys are spoilt for choice," said Con of Sydney.
