AirBnB launch $65 stay inside Myer Melbourne store
It’s the stuff shopaholics can only dream of — staying overnight at a department store with the whole place to themselves. Now it’s happening.
A lucky family will get to stay overnight at Myer’s flagship Melbourne store in a once-in-a-lifetime collaboration between the retail giant and Airbnb.
The Bourke Street store’s personal shopping suites will be transformed into a two-bedroom apartment, lavishly decorated for Christmas, for the overnight stay on Wednesday, December 23.
It’s the first time anyone has been able to stay overnight at the iconic department store.
For just $65, the lucky family will have the whole department store to themselves, with store credit to use on a once-in-a-lifetime shopping spree.
There’s also a star-studded schedule of Christmas-themed activities to enjoy. Masterchef’s Khanh Ong will be their personal chef, dishing up a lavish yuletide feast with all the trimmings, and Myer ambassador Kris Smith will be a special guest at dinner.
Celebrity stylist Lana Wilkinson will be on hand to lend fashion expertise, while actor and singer-songwriter Eddie Perfect — who narrated this year’s Myer Christmas window — will deliver a bedtime story.
The guests will also get to enjoy an after-dark private tour of the Myer Christmas windows with creative and technical director John Kerr.
The fun doesn’t end there — after a cosy sleep, guests will wake up to a gourmet breakfast and have the honour of opening the store’s doors to shoppers on the final day of Christmas trade.
The experience will be capped off with a very special activity — a rapid-fire charity toy grab, in which every toy guests manage to grab from the shelves in five minutes will be specially gift-wrapped and donated by the Salvation Army to families doing it tough this Christmas.
The unique collaboration between Myer and Airbnb is being held to mark 65 years of the iconic Myer Christmas window display.
“After an especially challenging year for the people of Victoria, we’re thrilled to be working with Myer to give one family a truly remarkable Christmas experience to mark the milestone of 65 years of the annual Myer Christmas windows display,” Airbnb’s country manager for Australia and New Zealand, Susan Wheeldon, said.
“During every other year the windows attract crowds from all over the world. And while this
Christmas may be a little different, we hope this special partnership with Myer encourages
everyone to spread the benefits of tourism to retail and hospitality businesses right across the
country.
“As the peak summer holiday season approaches we’ve certainly seen demand for unique
listings like farm stays and glamping yurts, so we thought we’d jump on that trend and offer
something truly unique – an unprecedented overnight stay in a department store – that will give one fortunate family ultimate shopping bragging rights for many Christmases to come.”
The stay is available to one family and is available to anyone across Australia.
If you’re keen, you can request to book on Saturday, December 19 at 12.01pm AEDT at airbnb.com/myerchristmas.
