A STUDY has found Australia's most loved swear word to use on Facebook and we lead the world in the use of perhaps the most abrasive swear word.

WARNING:  LANGUAGE MIGHT OFFEND

An analysis by Slate shows that the favourite swear word of Australians, Canadians and the Brits is f***. In the US the most common swear word is sh**, which comes in at number two for Australians.

The 'C word' comes in at number five on the list for Australia but is much further down the list for the Poms (eighth), Americans (17) and those well-mannered Canadians (18).

The Slate article points out that there is a Facebook group with 51,000 likes which suggests the C word is replacing the word 'mate' in Australian parlance.

We are also more likely to call someone a b**** or a slut or to say bugger. However we are less likely to call someone a bastard, a p**** or a douche.

When broken down into age groups the analysis finds that those aged under 25 favour f*** but that anyone 25 and above would be more likely to use the word sh** - on Facebook at least.

Furthermore men were more likely to use the words d***, p****, and fag, while women were more likely to use piss, c*** and slut.

Slate points out that the analysis tool cannot distinguish someone named Dick and the slang term for penis.

It also left out the word 'ass' because it appears too often in non-rude words like assess and asset. For the same reason the word 'hell' was excluded because it appears in the word 'hello.'
