You’ve seen tornadoes, sharknados and firenados. Now for the scariest ’nado of all ... the mosquito-nado!!!
YOU’VE seen tornadoes, sharknados and firenados. Now we bring you the scariest ’nado of them all. This thing is ridiculously horrible and nasty. It is also real.
MOSQUITOES are evil, we all know that.
By almost any measure, mossies are far and away the most dangerous creatures in the world — big or small. At least a million people a year lose their life through malaria and other mosquito-borne diseases.
The really insidious thing about mosquitoes is that it takes just one to work its evil magic. Many other insects can only inflict damage as a swarm. But mossies are solo killers.
Except sometimes they also swarm. *Shudder*

A Portuguese photographer recently captured an incredible image of a swarm of mosquitos in a funnel shape in her native Portugal. She snapped the photo in an area of swampy marshland an hour or so north of the capital, Lisbon.
Naturally people on social media, where there’s currently a bit of a “nado” fetish happening, have shared the image many times, and have coined the term “mosquito-nado”.
Mosquito swarms are a common occurrence in many parts of the world, especially in areas like the Arctic where summer is short and the window for mosquito life very small. What’s less common is a swarm shaped like a tornado. This pillar of mossies is believed to be about 300 metres tall.
Can you imagine how much repellent you’d need?
As most people know, Bill Gates is the world’s greatest crusader against malaria and other diseases caused by mosquitoes, having donated billions of dollars of his own money to the fight for a cure.
Last month, he launched an event called “Mosquito Week” on his blog. “It’s modelled on the Discovery Channel’s annual fear-fest, Shark Week. But compared to mosquitoes, sharks are wimps,” Gates wrote.
And compared to mosquitonados, sharknados are wimpy too, we reckon.
