People think the lunar eclipse means the end of the world

THIS morning Australia saw a brilliant lunar eclipse, but that didn’t stop conspiracy theorists predicting the apocalypse.

IF YOU missed the lunar eclipse early Saturday morning, never fear, at least you’re still alive.

This eclipse is particularly special as it is the longest of the century, with earth casting a shadow on the moon for 1 hour and 43 minutes.

Some people believe the ‘Blood Mood’ signifies the end of the world, citing Bible verses, mainly from Acts and Revelation.

The blood moon is said to signify the second arrival of Jesus Christ, as stated in Joel 2:31: “The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and terrible day of the Lord come.”

The blood moon prophecy predicts the world as we know it will end after a series of four lunar eclipses, which is known as a “tetrad”.

Christian pastor, Mark Biltz predicted the return of Jesus in 2015, which coincided with a tetrad. He wrote of this in Blood Moons: Decoding the Imminent Heavenly Signs, where he cites Joel 2:31.

John Hagee also wrote of the Blood Moon Prophecy, in his book Four Blood Moons: Something is About to Change.

Mr Hagee believes the event of a tetrad will result in an apocalypse. For the record, there have been 62 tetrads in the last 2000 years and zero apocalypses.

Both these books attracted mainstream media attention in 2014.

Of course, a Blood Moon has always been seen as a bad omen, just like black cats and shattering mirrors, so some decided to poke fun at those indulging in Doomsday conspiracies.

Every year, the earth will witness at least four eclipses, according to EarthSky.org, two of which will be solar and two being lunar, so there’s no real reason to fear the apocalypse. Obviously, we don’t get to see them. This eclipse however was visible in Australia, Asia, Africa, Europe, the Middle East and South America.
