The event, which occurred in the Romanian capital of Bucharest, shocked confused locals from their beds as the meteor streaked through the skies at 3.05am.
The flash lasted for several seconds.
The Romanian Space Agency (Rosa) said the event was caused by a meteoroid entering the Earth’s atmosphere and was recorded at an altitude of between 50 and 70 kilometres.
No one was injured in the cosmic event, and no property was reported as being damaged.
