‘March 21, 2025’: Hindu prophecy predicts global cataclysms as 2700-year Kali Yuga cycle ends

Humanity is facing an “eruption of insanity and large-scale violence”, according to a new prediction — which even puts an exact date on the start of the “end-times”.

Set your clocks for March 21, 2025 — the end of the world is nigh.

Humanity is facing an “eruption of insanity and large-scale violence” potentially leading to World War III when, according to ancient Hindu tradition, the current 2700-year cycle known as the Kali Yuga comes to an end, sparking a drawn-out process of “civilisational collapse and planetary rebirth”, an author claims.

The so-called Yuga Cycle doctrine, which dates back to ancient India, posits that every few thousand years the earth is visited by a global calamity, when “all traces of previous civilisations are destroyed” and a new wave of civilisations emerges after a transitional period of chaos lasting around 300 years.

Speculation about lost civilisations is a common theme among conspiracy theorists and paranormal enthusiasts, and was recently popularised by British writer Graham Hancock’s Netflix series Ancient Apocalypse, which was blasted by archaeologists as lacking evidence and easily disproved.

Now a new book, Yuga Shift: The End of the Kali Yuga and the Impending Planetary Transformation by Bibhu Dev Misra — who says he takes inspiration from writers including Hancock — has put an exact date on the impending apocalypse.

“There are very strong indications that the years from 2025 to 2040 are the ‘end-times’ that the ancient texts tell us of,” Misra predicts.

“(By) the year 2040, the Kali Yuga structures and ideologies may be entirely obliterated by a combination of wars, natural catastrophes and comet impacts. A few survivors — their minds made pure and luminous by the energies of this period — will inherit a renewed earth, and become the seeds of a new humanity, which will chart its course to the next Golden Age or Satya Yuga.”

The current era, the Kali Yuga, which has spanned most of recorded history, is the lowest point in the full 25,800-year process during which our “consciousness touches rock bottom”, according to Misra.

Ancient traditions differ on the exact lengths and start dates of each cycle.

In the book, Misra purports to show that we are living at end of two back-to-back Kali Yugas of “ignorance and discord”, the first “descending” and the second “ascending”.

While the term “ascending” might convey an upward trajectory, Misra says on the contrary “in the ascending Kali Yuga only the material circumstances of life begin to improve, but the decline in human consciousness continues unabated throughout the entire duration of the Kali Yuga, and hits rock bottom towards the end of the ascending Kali Yuga”.

He argues that the current era is marked by “comparatively high levels of material prosperity and technological advancements (coexisting) with utter moral and spiritual bankruptcy”.

It will come as a relief, then, that our current “decadent civilisation” is about to get a major shake-up.

“On March 21, 2025, the Saptarshis will enter the Punarvasu nakshatra, and officially bring down the curtains on the Kali Yuga,” Misra writes.

The Saptarshis, or the Seven Sages, were, according to Hindu tradition, divine, shapeshifting beings who “acquired the highest spiritual knowledge” and oversee the Yuga Cycle. Nakshatras, or lunar mansions, are 27 sections of sky corresponding to the zodiac calendar.

“As the Kali Yuga energies will be on wane after 2025, the tyrants and dictators, who control the affairs of the world, may begin to find that their evil plans are no longer coming to fruition as easily as before,” Misra writes.

“Their lies will get exposed, their propaganda will no longer be as effective, and their wicked schemes for gaining more profit and control will get disrupted. They may face increasing opposition from people around the world, who will begin to stand up for themselves and demand an end to the deceptions, injustices, exploitation of resources, instigated revolutions and false flag terror attacks.

“Humanity may become more polarised than ever before, leading to greater social and economic instability, and taking us closer to the next World War. An eruption of insanity and large-scale violence typically happens during a Yuga-ending period.”

Misra suggests the Yuga Cycle is linked to the earth passing through the “dense core” of the Taurid meteor stream, which contains “a number of massive, dormant comets and full-size asteroids” and has been speculated as the cause of the Tunguska event, a nuclear-bomb scale explosion that flattened 2150 square kilometres of remote Siberian forest in June 1908.

The earth passes near the core of the Taurid stream every 2500 to 3000 years, producing more intense meteor showers for a few centuries — but Misra’s timing for the apocalypse doesn’t gel with previous statements by experts.

“It is about 1000 years before the next such epoch is due,” Bill Napier, a research astronomer with Ireland’s Armagh Observatory, told National Geographic in 2003. “I have suggested that megalith building, for example Stonehenge, was prompted by such events in the past, when the sky started going wild, repeatedly, every year.”

Echoing the end-times prophecy in Christianity of the Second Coming of Christ, the Yuga Cycle tradition also predicts the return of a divine being called the Kalki Avatar — the incarnation of Hindu god Vishnu — who is said to “come from Shambhala, riding a white horse and holding a blazing sword” to “destroy all the barbarians and thieves”.

Misra, however, suggests that rather than an actual horseriding saviour, “the overall symbolism of Kalki is strongly suggestive of a Yuga-ending comet”.

Laying out a potential “end-time scenario”, Misra warns the crisis will “disrupt and transform every aspect of our existence” and will be particularly severe as “this time around our consciousness has become so degraded, and our materialistic urges so pronounced, that its effects will be magnified manifold”.

As earth flies through the comet swarm, people will “lose their sanity” and widespread hostility and global strife will intensify, he predicts.

“We are very close to switching on the ‘self-destruct’ mode, and once we cross the 2025 threshold, the chances of humanity sliding down the path of large-scale violence will increase substantially,” Misra writes.

At the same time, natural disasters like floods, cyclones, landslides, wildfires, earthquakes, tsunamis and volcanic eruptions may increase.

“The first passage of the earth through the Taurid Resonant Swarm in 2032 could be the most traumatic event that humanity has encountered in the past few thousand years of the ascending Kali Yuga,” he warns.

“As the giant ‘horse comet’ and other comet swarms within the core of the Taurid stream become activated, and the first chunks of burning rocks hit the earth, there will be utter mayhem. The densely populated cities of the modern world are simply not equipped to handle a calamity of this magnitude.”

When all is said and done, Misra concludes, the year 2040 will mark the beginning of a 1200-year period of Ekpyrosis — the Ancient Greek term for conflagration — when small groups of survivors, with the aid of divine and even inter-dimensional beings, rebuild civilisation and live “simple, humble lives, in tune with nature, and in alignment with dharma”.

“Our planet and our consciousness will be healed, cleansed and renewed, and the true meaning and purpose of the human incarnation, and the correct modes of living, shall be revealed once again to the survivors,” he writes.

Something to look forward to, at least.
