Blue Origin offers first glimpse inside luxurious spaceship set to launch for tourists in 2018
THE world’s second richest man, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, shows off the New Shepard flash capsule that will take the rich and famous into orbit.
THIS luxurious spaceship will begin ferrying wealthy tourists into space from next year.
Blue Origin, founded by billionaire Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, has developed the reusable space capsule which has six seats and boasts views from the “largest windows in space”.
Celestial holiday-makers can kick back and relax in the 15 cubic metre cabin, trying out a weightless somersault if they feel so inclined.
For takeoff they will be strapped into leather seats complete with blue piping, which can recline once the pod breaks through the Earth’s atmosphere and out into space.
The rocket and capsule, dubbed New Shepard, is designed to fly passengers to about 100 kms above the planet.
The incredible snaps appear to have been leaked from an email sent by Mr Bezos earlier this week.
He wrote: “Our New Shepard flight test program is focused on demonstrating the performance and robustness of the system.”
“In parallel, we’ve been designing the capsule interior with an eye toward precision engineering, safety, and comfort. Here’s a sneak peek.
“If you happen to be attending the 33rd Space Symposium in Colorado Springs April 3-6, come see this for yourself.
“The high-fidelity capsule mock-up will be on display alongside the New Shepard reusable booster that flew to space and returned five times. Jeff Bezos.”
Blue Origin appears to be taking the lead on rival SpaceX, which also has plans to send tourists into orbit.
Its founder Elon Musk has big plans to create a human colony on Mars by 2030.
