Blue meteor falls through the sky over Spain and Portugal

Early reports suggest a meteor was spotted in the skies over Spain and Portugal on Saturday evening, stunning citizens with its bright blue colouring.

Footage of a woman dancing in the street has been outshone as a flash of blue and green passed through the sky above her.

Early reports suggest a meteor was spotted in the skies over Spain and Portugal on Saturday evening.

Countless videos shared to X, formerly known as Twitter, showed the meteor race through the sky. One clip showed a woman parked on the side of the road as it passed by overhead, while others showed music festivals and people camped out on a hill to watch the meteor pass by.

Blue meteorite shoots through sky over Spain

One video showed a car driving along a highway in Portugal when a white line appeared in the sky before it flared into a blue and continued its way through the sky.

Collin Rugg, co-owner of Trending Politics, said: “This is insane.”

Early reports claim that the blue flash could be seen darting through the night sky for hundreds of kilometres.

“At the moment, it has not been confirmed if it hit the Earth’s surface however some reports say it may have fallen near the town of Castro Daire.

“Other reports say it was closer to Pinheiro.”

The two places are 309 km apart.

Firefighters attending numerous reportings of where it fell but as of 2am local time were unable to find anything, Publico reported.

Social media users were stunned at what they were seeing.

“Wow this was impressive, so bright! From the colour it seems be made of magnesium,” one Reddit user commented.

One sceptic said: “Same month as the aurora borealis. Why are all these once in a lifetime events happening so close to each other? Makes you wonder if the solar eclipse was a warning.”

“Legit!!! A once in a lifetime sight,” another social media user commented.

Another joked: “That’s no meteor, that’s Optimus Prime.”
