THE wild and wonderful array of things online users crowdfund for is almost limitless.

But this latest one has to be a first.

A pet-owner in Bristol, England, has put out a plea for money for an operation to relieve his tortoise’s painful swollen penis.

Cedric, as the unfortunate pet is named, is suffering from a prolapse of the cloaca which requires immediate treatment.

Owner Miles Jelfs couldn’t afford the 150-pound ($270) surgery so he started a funding page on the site Go Fund Me.

Online users rewarded Mr Jelfs’ efforts with 505 pounds of donations.

After taking Cedric to the vets Mr Jelfs said the tortoise “will almost certainly require an amputation of the affected area, which is going to cost 350 pounds.”

He thanked supporters and promised to donate excess proceeds to a local animal charity.
