Freeze-dried supplements containing human poo are being tested for weight loss

SCIENTISTS believe they have created a supplement to help combat the obesity crisis and it’s pretty sh***y to say the least.
Twenty obese test patients will be given capsules containing several grams of human faeces kindly donated from a fit and healthy donor.
Participants will be required to take the freeze-dried poo supplement every week for six weeks, while also engaging in a healthy diet and exercise regimen.
Researchers will then weigh the patients at three, six and 12 months to see how their weight loss is tracking.
Similar treatments have proven effective at treating tenacious gut infections, leading researchers to believe it could also help combat other health problems, such as obesity.
Lead researcher Elaine Yu said her team remained cautiously optimistic.
“We have no idea what the result will be,” she toldArs Technica.
Ms Yu admitted it was a risky procedure, but said extreme caution was being exercised in selecting stool donors.
She said each donor would have their faecal matter screened for infections, metabolic disorders and other health complications.
The research team were hopeful they could link microbes to weight loss.
“[Once proven], we can do all of the detail-oriented work to try to figure out which microbial communities are being affected to give more information for targeted treatments in the future,” she said.
