YOU could get purple contact lenses or you could just tattoo your eyeball the desired colour.

The only problem with the second option is it might not work according to plan.

Just ask Canadian model Catt Gallinger, who recently discovered the downfalls of getting an eye tattoo.

Shortly after getting the work done, her eye began spewing out the ink and became hugely swollen, with doctors unable to fix the problem.

Faced with a very real risk of losing her eye, Ms Gallinger has shared her cautionary tale on social media.

“As it stands I will have to see a specialist and am at risk of being blind if it doesn’t get corrected,” she wrote on Facebook.

“This was caused by undiluted ink, over injection, not enough/smaller injections sights. There are multiple people who can attest that my after-care was good and any other part of what I am saying.”

The model said she wasn’t sharing the picture to cause trouble, rather to ensure people conduct proper research before having the procedure done.

“I was on antibiotic drops for the first week and a half and have been on steroid drops for four days now, with little success at bringing down the internal swelling. The external swelling lasted for almost a week,” she said.

“Just please be cautious who you get your mods from and do your research. I don’t want this to happen to anyone else.”

While it's slowly improving, it might never be right again.

In a subsequent post, Gallinger says a doctor and surgeon told her that her eyesight likely won’t improve no matter what.

“There is haemorrhage and sclera tearing from the size of the needle used, depth and amount of ink,” she said.

“They are also concerned that the equipment was not sterile and that there is an infection stuck in with the excess of ink.”
