ITALIAN astronaut Luca Parmitano has captured a spectacular view from space of city lights, a green-glowing aurora and a sky full of stars.

ITALIAN astronaut Luca Parmitano has captured a spectacular view from space of city lights, a green-glowing aurora and a sky full of stars.

The European Space Agency astronaut has been posting many images from his vantage point 420km above the Earth's surface in the International Space Station.

This is only his latest offering.

Colleague and fellow ISS inhabitant Karen Nyberg has also embraced the trend of Tweeting images of life in orbit. Her latest view was this sunrise over a cloudy horizon.
