Worker at popular NT tourist destination mauled by saltwater crocodile

A woman was working at a popular tourist venue when she was attacked by a saltwater crocodile.

A worker at a popular tourist attraction is lucky to be alive after she was attacked by a saltwater crocodile.

The 34-year-old woman was working at Crocosaurus Cove in Darwin on April 29 when she was mauled by resident croc Leo.

It is understood the woman was putting a plant in Leo’s enclosure when the saltwater crocodile attacked her.

She was rushed to hospital with minor injuries, with some workers saying the woman was lucky not to lose a limb.

A spokesman from NT WorkSafe confirmed the incident and said inquiries into how the woman was attacked are ingoing.

Inspectors are working to “verify the information at hand” to determine an appropriate response.

“NT WorkSafe can confirm that a female worker was injured after she was bitten on the arm by a crocodile,” the spokesman said.

“Due to patient privacy, we are unable to provide any further details on the injury.

“As our inquiry is ongoing, no further comment will be provided.”

Crocosaurus Cove offers tourists “unique” and “up-close” views of saltwater crocodiles, the business website reads.

Visitors can swim with crocodiles, feed them and hold a baby croc in photos.
