A woman has lost an ear after being dragged from her wheelchair and mauled by two vicious dogs on a remote island off Australia’s northeast coast.

Emergency services were called about 11.10pm on Monday night to Sailor St on Palm Island – off the north coast of Queensland, near Townsville – following reports of the attack.

It is understood she lost an ear after two dogs dragged the 52-year-old from her wheelchair and mauled her that night.

A Queensland Police spokeswoman said the woman sustained bites to her neck, face, ear and arms.

She was flown to Townsville University Hospital.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman said the woman was in a stable condition and had suffered significant head and arm injuries as well as another to her ear.

The dogs fled following the attack and police were working with officers from the Palm Island Aboriginal Shire Council to find them, the Queensland Police spokeswoman said.
