Watch the terrifying moment a Great White shark ‘sneaks up’ on diver

SPEAR fisherman Grayson Shepard was hunting lionfish when he had a terrifying realisation: he was the bait.
The diver’s Go Pro was rolling when a massive shadowy shape emerged from the murky water. It was a Great White shark.
“It’s coming straight at me and it’s kind of like your worst fear you know with the Jaws music in the background,” he told WCTV about the May 10 experience.
“You can kind of see the shark break into the camera screen at the bottom and instantly I recognised right after that I looked down and I go, ‘Oh my god’.”
Rather than panic, the fishing charter captain slowly swam to the water’s surface as the shark circled, in waters southwest of St George Island, Florida.
“When a shark comes at you like that your best move is just to stand your ground. I had the gun and I was ready. I braced myself thinking this is going to be it and then he turned for whatever reason. He saw whatever he wanted to see and he just lazily turned kind of looked at me from the side and you hear me say, oh my god again. He turns, swims off and I let out this ‘Wooh!’” Mr Shepard said.
The experienced fisherman said the confrontation had a “sobering effect” on him.
“I’ve always felt like I was at the top of the food chain out here,” Mr Shepard told Tallahassee Democrat.
“The Great White changed all of that and I realised I’m No. 2 on the food chain now when I go diving.”
However the experience hasn’t deterred the angler — he was back underwater six days later hunting lionfish.
“It’s a classic case of getting back on the horse and riding it,” he said.
