Police have fatally shot a dog at a popular beach while arresting a woman believed to be its owner.

WA Police were called to a car park at Trigg Beach, in Perth’s north, following a concern for welfare report about 7pm on Tuesday.

Officers spotted a grey Toyota RAV4 in the car park and identified it had allegedly been stolen from an address in Victoria Park earlier in the evening.

The officers tried to speak with a 39-year-old woman, who allegedly ran down a beach track, leaving behind an American Staffy which had been with her in the car park.

Officers used OC spray on the dog after it allegedly became aggressive towards them.

The woman was later arrested on the beach and brought back to the car park.

At this time, her dog approached and allegedly attacked two small Dachshunds that were walking nearby with their owner.

The larger dog was fatally shot by police to prevent further injury to those present, police said.

One of the smaller dogs sustained serious injuries and was taken for emergency medical assistance.

The woman from East Perth has been charged with stealing a motor vehicle and driving without consent, no authority to drive (cancelled), and breaching bail.
