Vets discover shocking haul of foreign objects in poodle stomach

The disturbing cause of a rescue poodle’s enormous stomach problem came as a shock even to experienced vets.

Vets uncovered something truly disturbing when they opened up a poodle’s stomach after X-rays indicated it was carrying “some kind of foreign body”.

The 4.5kg rescue animal was delivered to the vet recently by its new adoptive owners due to a notable mass in its stomach.

A vet at the clinic, in the US state of Tennesse, said when staff went to investigate what had been causing such huge obstruction to the animals bowels, their findings left them gobsmacked.

Trapped in the poodle’s intestines was about 160 hair ties, with photos showing the enormous haul after they were all removed.

“We had done X-rays prior and knew this baby had some kind of foreign body. This was the outcome,” the vet wrote to Facebook this week.

“Approx 160 some hair ties came out of this little dog! It was unbelievable,” she said.

One gruesome photo showed a massive bundle of partially broken down hair ties rolled together in one big ball.

Another showed dozens of individual ties laid out on the table.

Hundreds of people couldn’t believe their eyes, with many accusing the vet of “lying” about how many ties were found inside the dog.

The volume was plausible given the average length of canine small intestines is four metres.

“How horrible! I am putting up my hair rubber bands. My dogs have been stealing them. I usually find them, but it’s clear they could do terrible things to a dog’s gut,” one comment on the post read.

“Gosh that is a serious fetish he has going on. Bless him,” someone else said.

“I lose them all the time or my kids do, but if I thought a dog or cat would eat them I would be more responsible like keep them in a tub,” another wrote.

Someone familiar with the case revealed the pet had recently been surrendered and placed with rescue owners.

“This dog was a rescue and the new owners got this mess! And they are doing everything they can,” they wrote.
