MOVE over dogs — it’s now a snake-eat-snake world.
This spectacular video shot in Adelaide shows what can happen when two pet pythons are given a rat to eat, and then left to their own devices.
The Murray Darling carpet python was devouring the rat from one end, and the Queensland carpet python was devouring the rat from the other end.
Neither of the snakes were prepared to stop eating, and would have kept going until the Murray Darling was actually inside the Queensland carpet.
Luckily it didn’t get to that, with the snakes’ owner calling Snake Catchers Adelaide to the de-tangling rescue.
Catcher Ange Broadstock was on the scene, and said it is not uncommon behaviour.
“We’ve had the same thing happen with two water pythons, where one had swallowed the other down to almost a metre”.
She recommends feeding pet snakes separately.
