A woman is in a serious condition in hospital after being sandwiched between two whales while on a diving tour in WA.

A woman is in a serious condition after being crushed between two humpback whales while diving in Western Australia’s Ningaloo Reef.

The 29-year-old was diving off Exmouth as part of a group yesterday when two whales got so close that she was squashed between them, suffering from fractured ribs and internal bleeding.

She was flown to the Royal Perth Hospital where she remains in a serious but stable condition.

She was not the only person injured during the tour; 7 News reported that several others were treated for scarring and bruising as the whales swam past.

The woman is expected to make a full recovery.

The incident is being investigated by WorkSafe.
