AN UNKNOWN photographer snapped this photo of Charlotte the police horse dying in an officer’s arms. The police force has paid tribute to her.
THE six-year-old Police horse had been on the force for four years when tragedy struck.
As she lay dying, the tender moment where a police officer nursed her was caught on camera.
In a tribute to their fallen comrade the Houston Police Department posted a picture on their Facebook thanking Charlotte for her service.
“She loved her job and was always ready to go to work putting bad guys in jail or giving nuzzles to children ... she will be missed” the post said.
A police spokesman told today.com Charlotte had died following an accident on Thursday when she was spooked and struck a cement truck.
It was the Animal Justice League’s post that first bought the heartbreaking moment to light, with an unknown photographer snapping the tender moment between Charlotte and officer D Herrejon.
