Quinns Rock locals help beached shark

A group of young fishermen has rushed to the aid of a stranded shark in Perth’s outer north.

Alkimos resident Stephan Short caught the rescue on video while at Quinns Beach, Quinns Rock on Wednesday evening.

In the footage, the shark can be seen in a distressed state, thrashing and opening its jaws, before the group of four teenagers steps in to subdue the creature and drag it back into the surf.

The video was posted to the City Of Wanneroo Residents and Ratepayers’ Association Inc. Facebook page later that night, with comments mostly positive and praising the boys’ actions.

However, some believed the shark had been dragged in due to some errant beach fishing.

“Legends? They dropped a line off a drone, dragged in a tiger shark to a family beach? Idiots, actually,” commented one user.

“Was definitely caught! Didn’t just wash up on the beach, lol,” said another, speculating the rescue was actually a case of catch and release.
