Sunshine Coast snake catchers find red bellied black snake inside asthma puffer
A Sunshine Coast teenager called for help after spotting a snake slither out of her laundry. Snake catchers called its hiding spots “one of the most incredible” they’ve seen.
A Sunshine Coast teen has gotten the fright of her life after a deadly red bellied black snake was found in “one of the most incredible places” – inside an asthma puffer.
The teenager called Sunshine Coast Snake Catchers 24/7 after spotting the snake, who recounted the tale on their Facebook page.
“She brought the washing in and as she put it on the floor of the bedroom, she saw a dark coloured snake came out of the clothing,” the company said.

Snake catcher Heather was sent out to the Bli Bli home to take care of things, eventually finding the baby snake curled up inside what appeared to be a discarded asthma puffer and relocated it.
The ventolin canister had been removed and the snake had taken its place.
“It’s one of the most incredible places we have ever found a snake before,” the company said, adding they were “glad Heather was able to catch and relocate it safely”.
“This is crazy and super lucky.”

Reacting to the tale on Facebook, commenters said they’d be “double checking” their asthma puffers from now on, while others said the discovery would have ironically had them reaching for their own puffer.
Others said they would simply “suffer from not being able to breathe properly”.
Red-bellied black snakes are venomous but less deadly than other Aussie snakes.
They are generally non-confrontational but can attack if provoked.
In 2017-18 (the most recent reporting period), black snakes sent 83 people to hospital.
