WARNING: GRAPHIC CONTENT. Two men have been filmed luring a squirrel to the edge of the Grand Canyon and then kicking it over the edge.

The footage was recorded by an onlooker, Jonathan Hildebrand, who says he was unaware the act of cruelty about to take place, the Independent reports.

In the clip, the tourist - wearing only their underwear and cowboy hats - can be seen arranging a trail of edible temptations for the squirrel, leading the trusting creature to the precipice.

One of the men then puts on a shoe in order to kick the squirrel over the edge into the Canyon - a fall of 1800 metres at its deepest point.

Mr Hildebrand claims he did not realise what was happening until it was too late and did not know the men. “All I know is that they were French,” he said.
