Snappy crocodile found wandering the streets of Fitzroy Crossing

Residents were shocked to see a crocodile roaming the streets as it still recovers from major flooding.

Crocodile captured in Western Australia

A lost crocodile spotted roaming the streets of a remote West Australian town has put up a fight, but is now safely back where it belongs.

WA Police were called to Flynn Drive, Fitzroy Crossing, after reports a crocodile had been spotted about 2am loose on the main street on Thursday.

Officers tried to contain the crocodile’s movements using several techniques, but the cranky croc was not interested.

After several failed attempts, officers sought the assistance of a local volunteer wildlife expert, Tamela from Wild Life West Inc.

The volunteer was able to successfully tranquilise the croc.

Once safe to do so, the crocodile was secured and taken to the river where it would normally live.

A WA Police spokeswoman said without Tamela’s assistance it’s likely there would have been no way to safely relocate the crocodile without officers or the crocodile itself being harmed.

The crocodile was monitored as it recovered from being tranquillised and observed to return to its natural habitat.

The shocking discovery comes as the Kimberley region continues to recover from severe flooding.
