THIS is the skin-crawling moment a spider as big as a turtle terrified a group of tourists as it scurried out of a bush and straight towards them.

According to The Sun, the British backpacker behind the camera got the shock of her life on a day out driving buggies through the rainforest in the Dominican Republic when she spotted the massive spider running at her.

After one of the group’s vehicles broke down during the tour, the backpackers were forced to sit twiddling their thumbs by the side of the road.

All of a sudden, the young woman filming the scene can be heard saying, “Oh my God, it’s coming back with a vengeance”.

Seconds later, it’s clear she’s referring to a huge spider, which can be seen scurrying out of the undergrowth by the road with great speed.

Losing it, the woman screams: “Oh my f******!”

Sensibly keeping her head, she orders her fellow backpackers: “Don’t move! Don’t move!”

As she screams, the spider continues making its way towards the group, unaware that it is causing the hysterical screams.

Despite their size and tendency to bite humans, the spiders are popular pets in the Dominican Republic. Picture: YouTube

Sharing the video online, the woman wrote: “Giant spider chased me on holiday in the Dominican Republic while on a day trip driving buggies, the car in front hand broken down, we were strapped in and couldn’t move!”

According to experts, the gigantic arachnid was likely a Hispaniolan Giant Tarantula, known in the Dominican Republic as a “Cacata”.

Despite its size, terrifying demeanour and tendency to bite, the spiders make popular pets in the Caribbean nation.
